June 16th Pitcher Ranks 1. Justin Verlander DET (1) 2. Clayton Kershaw LAD (2) 3. Matt Cain SF (4) Cain was perfect Wednesday night. 4. Cole Hamels PHI (3) 5. Cliff Lee PHI (5) 6. CC Sabathia NYY (6) 7. Stephen Strasburg WSH (8) 8. Jered Weaver LAA (9) 9. Felix Hernandez SEA (7) |
Weaver moving ahead of Felix is not a credit to the Angels rehabbing ace but rather the recent struggles of the Venezuelan flamethrower. King Felix has allowed at least 4 earned runs in 5 of his last 6 starts.
10. Zack Greinke MIL (11)
11. David Price TB (10)
12. Gio Gonzalez WSH (12)
13. Madison Bumgarner SF (13)
14. C.J. Wilson LAA (19)
Over his last 6 starts Wilson hasn't allowed more than one run in any of his outings.
15. Brandon Beachy ATL (15)
16. Dan Haren LAA (16)
17. Ian Kennedy ARI (22)
18. Jake Peavy CHW (25)
19. James Shields TB (18)
20. Jordan Zimmermann WAS (17)
21. Adam Wainwright STL (23)
22. Anibal Sanchez MIA (24)
23. Yu Darvish TEX (14)
I worried about Darvish's health in the Texas heat. From a numbers stand point, he is second in all of baseball in walks allowed at 44 (Kyle Drabek of Toronto has 47). Those two factors have Darvish sliding down in my rankings.

24. Yovani Gallardo MIL (34) 25. Ricky Romero TOR (21) 26. Shaun Marcum MIL (30) 27. Chris Sale CHW (41) 28. Johnny Cueto CIN (26) 29. Matt Garza CHC (27) 30. James McDonald PIT (32) 31. Josh Johnson MIA (36) 32. Johan Santana NYM (29) 33. Jon Lester BOS (31) 34. Colby Lewis TEX (39) 35. Matt Latos CIN (33) 36. R.A. Dickey NYM (49) 37. Tommy Hanson ATL (35) 38. Daniel Hudson ARI (37) I recently had a Twitter conversation with Hudson. I'm expecting a big second half for a handful of Diamondbacks. 39. Brandon Morrow TOR (20) 40. Josh Beckett BOS (38) 41. Lance Lynn STL (50) 42. Jeremy Hellickson TB (28) |
Morrow's injury isn't as serious as Halladay's but an oblique injury is still cause for concern. Jeremy Hellickson's sabermetrics are very similar to that of his last year's numbers with two major differences. He has a 1.34 WHIP this year (1.15 last year) and he's already allowed 14 home runs this year in 78.1 innings (21 homers in 189 innings last year).
43. Matt Moore TB (43)
44. Tim Hudson ATL (44)
45. Edwin Jackson WSH (NR)
46. Vance Worley PHI (NR)
47. Wandy Rodriguez HOU (40)
48. A.J. Burnett PIT (NR)
49. Andy Pettite NYY (46)
50. Hiroki Kuroda NYY (NR)
There are a lot of new faces towards the bottom of my top 50 this week. Keep an eye on A.J. Burnett, he's won 6 straight decisions.
The Question Marks
Tim Lincecum SF (47) - I stil think he'll be traded or end up in the bullpen.
Roy Halladay PHI (48) - The original report would have him missing the next 5-7 weeks.
Jarrod Parker OAK (NR) - Is this kid for real? 2.82 ERA - 1.25 WHIP - 6.68 K/9
