The Flyin' Hawaiin Lands in LA
Trade Deadline Deals Part 6

On Tuesday the Los Angeles Dodgers traded for Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino. The "Flyin Hawaiian" would end up being the 2nd Philadelphia outfielder traded at the deadline. It's clear the Phillies are rebuilding around their current staff aces Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels. As for the Dodgers, they are gearing up for a deep playoff run picking up a much needed bat in Victorino.

The deal itself sent pitchers Josh Lindblom, Ethan Martin and player to be named or cash considerations to the Ruben Amaro Jr.'s club for the 31 year old Wailuku native. Lindblom has pitched in 48 games this year for the Dodgers. He has had success to the tune of a 3.02 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 43 strikeouts. He was tied with Ronald Belisario for the team lead in holds with 15. Ethan Martin was a first round pick in 2008 who possesses a plus fastball and a solid curve. Martin will automatically jump into the Phillies top 10 prospects list.

This year Victorino is 6 for 12 at Dodger Stadium
From a fantasy aspect Victorino's value takes a slight increase moving to a contender. He was already 100% owned but in LA he should be able to provide more production in a lineup with Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and the newly acquired Hanley Ramirez. On the season Victorino is hitting .261 with 9 home runs, 24 stolen bases, 40 RBI and 46 runs scored. He will more than likely hit lead off for Don Mattingly's club. Whether or not that is a good thing has yet to be seen. This season he is 6 for 26 from the one spot in the lineup and over the past three seasons (2009-2011) he had a .255 average when hitting lead off. If the price is right, I'd trade for Victorino but I will not value him higher than Hunter Pence, Jay Bruce, Nelson Cruz or Justin Upton. All of those guys are lower than him on the ESPN Fantasy Baseball Player Rater. Victorino is a borderline top 25 fantasy outfielder for me right now.

Keep in mind the Phillies were able to bring up top outfield prospect Domonic Brown because of the move. I think Brown is a must add right now in keeper leagues, he offers the potential to be a plus speed guy who hits for a decent average with solid pop.
